Wheelchair Ramps
Evaluation
A great product only provides a great solution when it meets all of a customer’s needs. So often, we encounter customers seeking (and vendors promoting) products without first seeking a thorough understanding of their needs. Our detailed assessment process takes into account the characteristics and requirements of the user, caregiver, site conditions and payer as well as the applicable local regulations. The user’s weight, strength, independence and device usage need to be considered as does the availability and ability of a caregiver to assist in the process.
Although the funding source and applicable regulations may dictate the specifications to be followed, these may not always be sufficient or appropriate to ensure a safe and practical solution for the user. Our propriety evaluation process will ensure that we match the most appropriate products to your particular situation in order to create a great solution that is as safe and cost effective as possible. Our experience of hundreds of successful wheelchair ramp installations and our leverage of technology, we can usually accurately assess your situation over the phone and provide a quote within a few minutes.
Modular Ramps
Modular wheelchair ramps are one of the most important recent home modification product developments. Modular systems are versatile, cost-effective and safe – so much so, that they have virtually eliminated custom construction of a wooden ramps. Modular aluminum ramps have numerous advantages over wooden ramps including:
- Faster to Install (due to our large inventory, we often perform same and next day installations);
- Lower Maintenance (no painting, sanding or sealing is required, ever);
- Better Traction (the decking surfaces provide great traction in both wet and dry conditions);
- Re-usable (the ramps can be disassembled and reused elsewhere – never to the landfill);
- Rentable (perfect for short term needs such as rehab and hospice applications).
Modular ramp systems have sturdy handrails and are configurable to meet nearly every need. We’ve provided them for every application from a 6ft. long ramp in a family room to a 90ft. long ramp along a hillside. For applications where aesthetics are a priority, our aluminum ramps now even come in several custom colors enabling them to blend in with the décor and landscape.
Threshold Ramps
Even small bumps can be a big problem when using a walker or wheelchair. We have a wide range of practical threshold solutions in both rubber and aluminum. Whether it’s indoors or out, our solutions will smooth out those transitions thereby enhancing mobility and safety for all. Our rubber solutions for up to 2½” high have the appearance of an angled door mat and blend in naturally to the surroundings. Our aluminum solutions can smooth thresholds as high as 5”. Our technicians carry many of these solutions with them at all times in order to solve most of your threshold challenges in a single visit.
Portable Ramps
Portable ramps may be an option for applications with occasional use and modest elevation changes. These lightweight, portable and foldable ramps work best when a caregiver is available to set up and remove the ramp after each use and to assist the user going up and down. Small enough to fit in the car and strong enough to handle most applications, they are terrific for travelling to provide access up a single step or two. We discourage their use with walkers and for significant elevation changes. We will give you our frank advice as to whether a portable ramp is a viable and safe solution for your application.
Purchase and Rental Options
We have developed our wheelchair ramp services to be as flexible as possible in order to support the variety of situations which drive the need for a ramp. For situations where the ramp will be needed for long term, we provide new equipment for sale. For situations where the need is perceived to be short term, we can rent equipment on a monthly basis. We can even convert rentals to purchase should the length of need change. Finally, we also frequently have an inventory of refurbished equipment which we can make available for sale at a discounted rate but with the same warranty as new. Call us to discuss which option makes the most sense for you.
ADA Compliance
The Americans with Disabilities Act provides specifications for wheelchair ramps in public, commercial and multifamily housing situations. Although, the ADA technically does not apply to general residential applications, it is often referred to and utilized as a standard by third party payers. Our solutions comply with the ADA and other regulations when necessary and appropriate, but we also have the expertise and confidence to recommend more liberal or more conservative specifications, while still ensuring safety, when conditions merit and when it is in our client’s best interest to do so.
We take pride in leveraging our experience and expertise to guide our clients to the most appropriate and cost-effective solution for their particular situation. We will not recommend or provide a product that we do not feel is safe for both the user and the caregiver. Since we are a comprehensive home modification provider, we will always guide you to the safest and most cost-effective solution including when a stair lift or platform lift is a more appropriate solution. Please tap in to our knowledge, even if it is just for a second opinion.
